Refurbishing is the process of renewing, restoring, or reviving something that has worn out, been damaged, or simply fallen into disuse. In the same way, refurbishment can be used to describe the process of renovating or upgrading the interior or exterior of an old building, or it can describe the restoration of a used or discarded object. While refurbishing and refurbish have become synonymous, refurbish is usually used in the context of restoring or upgrading something that has been used rather than in a commercial or industrial setting.
Since you live in your home, you probably pay more attention to it than anyone else. You know where the squeaky floorboards are, which doors creak, where the cupboard doors don’t close, and where the light switch is if you’re stumbling home in the dark. If you want to make anything of your house, you have to get to know it, inside and out. This is why we’re starting a new series of posts called “Research” that will help homeowners get familiar with their homes (or new homes) and learn how to make the most out of them. We’ll be taking you on a tour of our house, room by room, explaining what we like about each of the things within it, what we’ve done to it and why, and what our plans are for the future.
